We are living in an era where knowledge is at a click of a finger. We see every kind of image known to men via internet. You want to see a man being slaughtered alive? I’m pretty sure the internet will provide it.
I’m sure in the 1970’s, there was not graphic displays as much as there is today because Internet was not in use then. We are living in a day and age where you can find pornography so easily. We are living in a day and age where you see and read toxic posts on social media. Where you see marijuana written about as a very cool drug that is being highly promoted and this young generation is esteeming it and indulging in it without any fear.
Nude pictures of women are shared on social media and so highly celebrated. Majority of women chant and cheer and aspire to be these women whom are highly exalted. Majority of men wish to have women like that. Women all over social media talk about how they love men who have money, why they only cheat men who don’t have money. This has been popularly embraced and already young girls see this kind of information and misguides them so much.
So recently there has been this trending phrase that says “when you go to help the poor, leave your camera at home”. This phrase has been widely put out there, everywhere on social media. I don’t like this phrase at all. I don’t find why the world can esteem vulgar, promiscuity and a lot of x rated content and not celebrate public display of kindness. I know that the world might say people who are show casing helping people who are poor is a sort of gloat and pride to actually show how much money they may have.
I remember when I would see Joyce Meyer helping the needy on TV, my heart would just melt and tears would well up in my eyes. I found that so motivating to me. I ended up aspiring to help the needy in what so ever way I could. I actually ended up really putting my heart out and going out in the streets to talk to some street kids and find out what the matter was and see where I could help. Yes I didn’t carry a camera but what I saw inspired me so much.
I like how Paul says that he doesn’t care whether people preach Jesus out of selfish ambition or out of a pure admiration. All he cares about is Jesus being preached.
“The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,”
Philippians 1:17-18 ESV
So, I too don’t really care whether people helping the needy show pictures of them helping the poor. As long as kindness is displayed. Whether people administering in helping the poor do it for self promotion or out of a sincere gesture, I really don’t care, as long as the needy have something to eat or wear. I don’t know about you but I am happy either way. Helping the needy out of gloat or sincere kindness.
I would rather have my kids grow up seeing kindness whether it’s fake kindness or pure kindness. The main mission is for them to at least see that helping the needy is something that has to be done. I would rather have my kids see more of kindness being displayed than seeing more of smoking marijuana made cool. I would rather have my kids see kindness being displayed whether faked than hearing how promiscuity is dominant in this world.
One of the fruits of the spirit is kindness. Whether we like it or not, once you come to the saving knowledge of Jesus, kindness is in you.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23 ESV
We need to let these fruits of the spirit to be seen in the world. Rather we find what is idolized a lot being the fruits if the flesh. It really saddens me. Let’s let kindness trend.
