…but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Philippians 2:7-8 ESV
I figured this would be a good beginning of this article. It has been speaking to me in heights indeed. When we look at Jesus, with all deity though He was with, He was born in human form. Emptying Himself for humanity. For the betterment of our Spirits. For us to live as first the Spirit, in a body and having a soul. This should speak volumes to you. This is the actual intent of God. For us to live and know that we are Spirit more than we would think that we are a body or a soul.
My point more than anything is on Jesus being obedient to the point of death. It would be enough to have been told that He was obedient to the point of death, but the scripture continues to outline that it was not just death, but death on the cross. This shows or emphasizes on how low and degrading it is for someone to die by hanging on a cross. To make Him a minority to that point. It would have been much better to have whipped him and killed Him by just whips then to lead Him to that mountain top and let Him hang on the cross in that way.
It would have been enough but no, He just had to be dragged all the way. “his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God…”
Deuteronomy 21:23 ESV
Any man hung on a tree is cursed. Any man hung on a tree is cursed. Jesus hung on that tree. That is why Paul emphasizes that not just death, but death on a cross. To show us the magnitude and depth of His death. On a tree He hung, cursed and dispised by God for you and I to walk with assurance that we are blessed and loved today. This very day.
Again, my point is on His obedience. Jesus was obedient to the point of death. Let me ask this, can you be obedient to the point of just subjecting your urges, lusts and canal instincts? This is to say when the word of God says we should not lie, are we willing to obey it whether or not we go into trouble and defend the truth? Yet Jesus was obedient to the point of death. Simply because God wanted Him to go through that, He was so obedient that it costed Him His life.
Are we obedient in the little things that God is instructing us not to do or to do in His word? Obeying His word wanting us to live a healthy fulfilling life for our own selves and for our own benefit. Are we willing to suffer our urges and lusts? We are not even required for us to die like He died but just to hold and think of what God may want for us. Jesus didn’t even complain, all He did was to embrace the cross with zeal for our freedom and replaced us with Himself to embrace our curse.
This obedience of Jesus really penetrated my heart in a different light. I pray that we may be obedient, to the point of really neglecting our urges and attaining strength from the Holy Spirit Himself.
